I can hear some people getting all geared up to call me ungrateful, but really, why do we celebrate Columbus Day, other than to have a day off? And for most public schools... we don't have the day off. So really, what is the purpose of this holiday? I'll brace myself for criticisms now.
It's a rainy Monday. It's been a rainy weekend. It's kinda nice now, since I don't have to worry about being out in it. I came home and changed from work clothes into a sweater and jeans and I feel very "comfy," watching the news while it's gray and drizzly outside.
My computer decided to rebel and, for unknown reasons, "temporarily" died last night. Kev's taking it to the computer hospital tonight and we hope for a speedy recovery. But who knows? Happy thoughts to my computer, please. And to me if the hard drive can't be recovered. You'll be able to hear my cries of mourning if it's gone. Meanwhile, we had ordered a new battery for my computer, which IBM promptly sent and DHL promptly delivered....to the wrong hands. Supposedly, the secretary for our apartment complex signed for it. Except that the signatures don't match and she was out on vacation on the day "she" signed for the package. The end result being, we have no battery, DHL is embarrassed, and IBM is sending a new part and launching their own investigation. The two companies both have their fighting gloves on now and will have to battle with each other to determine who ends up paying for this mess. Maybe I should just go back to using pencil and paper and forget this whole electronic thing. Sounds like a nice idea, but I'm addicted to my computer. I miss it already.
Here's to Columbus. Looking for the land of spices and found the land of hamburgers. In his honor, I shall enjoy "spicy" tacos tonight.....

I grew up in a town called "Columbus". Catholics know of a group called the "Knights of Columbus". On this weekend every year, there is the Miss Columbus, USA Pageant. Do you know how many towns named "Columbus" exist in these United States? 22 last I knew.
For Italians, it's the equivalent of St. Patrick's to the Irish. It's a chance to revel in our explorer/conqueror role.
