Home for the Holidays

We drove back to Pennsylvania on Friday morning to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. Thanks to light traffic and what Kevin oh-so-lovingly refers to as my "lead foot," we made the drive in about 4 1/2 hours. My mom had dinner ready to be served and so we sat down to eat right away. Turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy and corn and several types of salad and sweet potatoes, to be topped off by ambrosia, and pecan pie, and pumpkin pie. When the time comes that I am responsible for the annual Thanksgiving meal, I'm going to have to practice for months ahead of time...or find a really good caterer! ;)

The guys went out on the porch afterwards to smoke cigars, which I suppose is the epitome of male bonding. Mostly because the majority of women can't stand the smell and so kick those men out of the house into the cold so that they can smoke and commiserate together.

At my parents' urging Kevin and I went to the tree lighting in Gettysburg. Ohhhh boy.... There was a time where 20 degrees in winter was normal to me and thus my body was adjusted to that type of cold. After 2 years in a warmer climate, it only took about 10 minutes for the cold to slice through my turtleneck, flannel jacket, ski jacket, gloves and scarf. As we waited for the parade to start, I spent alot of time stamping my feet and watching the others who seemed less affected by the cold and wondered (mourned?) over how our bodies adapt to our environments. 2 1/2 hours later, after the parade was over, I was shivering from head to toe and we moved quickly to the car where we turned the heat on full blast. A really fun night, but a reminder of what Pennsylvania winters are like.

Today has been a wonderfully slow, sleeping-in sort of day. I've spent alot of time doing nothing. Tongight Kevin and I are going out with my parents. The plan for tonight is dinner at one of my favorite local restaurants, La Cucina. Then to the movie theater to see Pride and Predjudice.

Kevin reminds me that I need to add "fresh meat" to this site more often to keep readers interested. But who am I writing this for? I don't think it's for a general audience, though that's certainly okay. Really, it's for friends and family who are interested in what I'm up to. So those that are interested will keep coming back. And those that lose interest due to my lack of daily posts...they'll find someplace else more interesting to kill their time. And that's okay with me.
