I've learned a few lessons in the last 8 months. One being that I will often find myself "geographically single" for a week or more at a time while Kevin is on a business trip. During the week, this is tolerated by keeping busy with work. On the weekends, however, I often find myself feeling a little more lonely. So, today, I had a "Me Day." Spring has come to the area and today it was 70 degrees, sunny, and cloudless. I slept in, and then did a few errands around the house. After that, I had my nails done and then did something I CAN'T do with a spouse tagging along. I went GIRL shopping. This is different than MALE shopping.
MALE shopping involves making a list of what you need, going to necessary store (hopefully only a one-stop shop), purchasing necessary items, and then returning home.
COUPLE shopping tends to involve the woman wanting to visit a variety of stores, at a variety of locations, while said spouse tags along. If she's lucky, he pretends he's really enjoying himself.
GIRL shopping involves several hours and no real purpose. It involves going into whatever store looks interesting and then spending an unstructured amount of time there, until ready to leave. It may involve going BACK to a store after you've left it, after changing your mind about a purpose. There's no obligation, no guilt over purchases and always, always, always, the joy of a good sale. Today I had two. First, a pair of Ann Taylor pants, normally $50, on sale for $20. And then a Calvin Klein sweater, normally $60, on sale for $15. Yes, $15 for a Calvin Klein label. That alone made the day worth it.
Oh, and Kev? Remember a week ago when you commented on how you wanted to see the trees bud? You're missing it. The trees lining Hilltop are now all covered in white blooms. So pretty. Hurry home, so you can enjoy them, too.

Girl-shopping sounds way more fun than kid-teaching. On a day with no flushing, no less....
And kid-teaching is just a step up from kid-shopping. Then you are trying to fit strollers in too-narrow doors and making sure kids don't play their favorite "I'm lost in the garment racks game" and yes, you finally buy a $15.00 sweater, but it's Walmart's TOP brand, not CK!!!!
I want to be a young newlywed again. Sigh.....
Ahhh, yes. Kid-shopping has not yet entered into the picture. At that time, I guess I'll have to give up the girl-shopping...which is partly why the kid-shopping hasn't come into the picture yet. Right now, if I have to choose between kids and a great new pair of shoes...I want the shoes. ;) Rest assured, though, that when the time DOES arrive? My kids will have the BEST dressed feet in the country!
