As I was walking my kids out to the bus today, one of my 10-year-old girls started a conversation about the 3rd-5th grade Luau dance we're holding next Friday. Really, this is a "pep rally" for the grades that start standardized testing the following week.
"Mrs. B-, are you going to be at the dance next week?"
Yup!
"Well, is your husband going to come too?"
No, he's going to be on a business trip.
"Oh. Where is he going?"
He's going to visit lots of really exciting countries, like Germany and Russia.
"Wow! Is he going to be gone a long time?"
Yes. He won't get back until after we're finished with school for the year.
(eyes huge) "Whoa!! That's a long time! He better bring you back something good!"
I had to laugh. This is a little girl who understands the way it is! Hear that, KJB? ;)
