It's Official

Summer starts at a different time for everybody. For some, it's Memorial Day. For others, it's June. For still others, it's the first day it hits 75 degrees. For me, it's the last day of school. That day finally arrived on Friday. I have successfully guided my fourth graders into fifth grade and now they are at home enjoying their freedom and I'm enjoying mine! I really enjoyed my class this year, but it was time for all of us to have this break. On the last day, it is tradition for all the teachers to stand together at the end of the circular drive in front of the school. The buses leave, one by one, with kids cheering from the windows as we wave them off. Their excitement is almost tangible. As the last bus pulled from the drive and onto the road, one of my colleagues let out a whoop that was louder than anything any of the kids had been able to pull off. Yes, summer has begun. We all then met at a local restaurant, where we were treated to a finger food buffet. We sat on the outdoor deck, enjoying the balmy breeze and 80 degree cloudless day, and let our hair down. And suddenly it was summer.

So this morning I lounged in bed until 8:30. Then I moved to the couch and watched various tv and talk shows for another two hours. It wasn't until a friend contacted me at 10:30 and asked if I wanted to get together and do some shopping that I actually showered and got myself together. And I loved every moment of my laziness.

Here's to another two months of lazy summer days!

Congrats! Well deserved. Being able to relax is, indeed, a skill. To maintain your skill set, you must practice.

Here's to two months of practice.

I envy you! Just remember me, while you are sitting by the pool or on your couch, I'll be studying for the bar exam. Congrats on another year done!
