J-Town

Today was THE field trip of the year. Every year we take the kids to Jamestown and they look forward to it ALLL year. So today was the day.

It was 85 degrees (summer HAS arrived), accompanied by the high summer humidity. We arrived around 9:30. The kids started whining about the heat by 9:35. You would have thought they were dying. However, it was 3 hours before we headed into the air conditioned museum. That's three hours of constant whining. But then they found the museum "boring." So they whined about that too. That's whining from 9:35-2:45 when we left.

And then there was the bus ride to and from...with 45 fourth graders per bus. We took charter buses, for which I'm grateful. But that also increased their excitement level.

And then one of the other teachers asked me to take her "problem child" for the day, because she "wanted to have a good trip." And I'm too much of a wimp to say no. So I had to stay on him all day to keep him in line.

After walking in the door at 5:00, eating dinner, showering and having a Seagrams, I feel a little more normal. Now, if I could get our downstairs neighbor to understand that the bass does not HAVE to be on high, things would be good. This is not the first time his music has been a problem, but the last time, Kev was here to take care of it...and found husband belligerently drunk. So I'm not about to go down there.

Yea for weekends! I need one....

The reason WHY he was belligerently drunk is worth telling in this forum. He and a friend were drinking their cares away after a mutual friend of theirs passed away when he fell down an elevator shaft.

Fell down an elevator shaft? I don't mean to be flippant, but what a novel way to go.

Okay, but that's not really the point. And not what my story was about. What would you like to use as a reason for his music last night?

I still say, no matter what the circumstances, you don't get that drunk, in your home, with a toddler.
