Doors and Windows

"Whenever God closes a door...somewhere he opens a window."

I don't know who said that first, but in my head, it sounds like Julie Andrews, dispersing practical knowledge to the Von Trapp children.

A year and a half ago, I started a Masters degree, but working full-time, I was only able to take a course per semester. A couple classes in, I decided to change my focus, but due to course offerings, I had to wait an extra semester. This fall, I started over again. This past week, another "glitch" meant that I wouldn't be able to finish the program as I had planned and would have to sit out this spring and summer, and start over again this fall.

I'm really struggling right now with the question of "What next?" Mom says there's a plan in all this, that I just don't know what it is yet, that everything happens for a reason. My head may know this true, but my heart is struggling with it. We're thinking that this will be my last year of teaching full-time, at least for awhile. But what I will be doing instead remains to be seen.

This is hard for me. I like things laid out. I like knowing the direction. I like knowing what doors (or windows) are open.

I usually try to remember that we have a lot of years left and there is no rush... Good luck!

Have you considered something entrepreneurial and flexible--like your scrap-booking? Perhaps you'd consider the options of a career with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Or something along those lines. My sister walked away from a 60 hour corporate sales job [after her first two years out of college teaching elementary education] when my niece was 10 months old. 16 years later, she's more than doubled her salary and quintupled her girlfriend time and become a much nicer person to be around. Of course, you're way ahead of her in the niceness category already. And, although she's earned several pink Cadillacs, she sometimes opts for the cash instead. Gosh, Maria, think of it...a job where having great shoes is the norm!
