Welcome Home

My little family is once again complete, after a three-week interruption. Kevin arrived home yesterday afternoon, much to my happiness. So now the two of us and our "baby" have happily settled back into life.

Had a surprise on Friday when, at around 11:00, I received a call from friends, Carl and Tish, who annonced that they were in town for a Captain's Change-of-Command (for Kevin's ship, ironically) ceremony and wanted to know if I could meet them for lunch. Tish is, in part, responsible for our marriage. It was she who put Kevin back in contact with his old friend from the elementary years, who happened to be my freshman college roommate. She and her husband have become good friends, but I had no idea that they were in town and was shocked when her voice was on my answering machine. I met them for lunch, which turned into two hours of catching up, at which time Tish announced that I should attend the new Captain's reception that night....and promptly sent her husband to find their friend, the new Captain, and get an invite out of him. Consequently, I spent Friday night at his reception, having the chance to meet and speak with him before Kevin even reported to work!

I spent much of the last three weeks doing some decorating of the new apartment, all as a surprise to my other half. While I was satisfied by the results, I've been pretty nervous the last couple days, wondering exactly what his reaction was going to be. By the time he walked in the door yesterday, I was almost too nervous to sit still. No need to worry. He seems really happy with the results and all is well.

Today was spent at church, and then lunch at Applebees. We went to the Mattress Factory and bought the needed mattresses for the guest bedroom and then to a boat store to pretend we could actually afford a boat. Turned into an education for me...I learned what a "marine head" was :-P Kevin challenged me to Scrabble this afternoon, so we played a round, which I lost horribly. My competitive streak demanded a rematch... which resulted in a second humiliating loss. I really ought to learn when to quit. It's Kenny Rogers who said "You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em/Know when to walk away and know when to run." This is a skill I have not yet learned.

It's about time to start dinner. Cooking for two again, which means I have to produce actually meals.

Still no word on the job front. Keep sending positive vibes my way.

Our "baby" and the apartment before my decorating streak
