How do you get your spouse to help around the house?
If I don't offer specific suggestions, it's my fault he doesn't do it because I never asked for help.

I can totally relate. Have you tried this? On Saturday morning, lie in bed and ask him "What have you got on your wish list today?" Let him enumerate what he has. To be polite, he'll probably ask you the same thing. Then tell him all the things you want to accomplish and ask him if any of them sound like something he'd like to help you with. And, while you're in bed, let him know how wonderful he is for offering to do some housework.
Also, significantly lower your standards of cleanliness and habitability. Don't get whacked about anything that he wouldn't get upset about. Finally, get 2 bathrooms. Truly lengthens the life expectancy of any marriage.
