Friday, Yet?

Last week was a short week due to parent conferences and the Friday holiday. Next week is a short week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. That means that this week feels like it's dragging for years. The break in routine throws the kids off, too. And I thrive on routine. When my rhythm is off, the kids rhythm is off, and the result is that it felt like Monday was a Friday.

This afternoon, I was on my way out of the building and stopped in the cafeteria to drop off some lost and found out items, and the assistant principal, who happened to be in there, says, "Oh, by the way, Mrs. B____...You will be getting a new student tomorrow, a boy from Mrs. E____'s class. He's a gifted student, very argumentative, you'll have to be firm with him, but he needs out of the classroom he is in now." Now, don't get me wrong....I'm blessed this year with a wonderful group of fourth graders. I only have one student who really gives me chronic problems. And I am not really concerned about adding another student. Except I have no desk for him. No chair. No materials prepared. And nobody was going to tell me that I had a new child coming in until he showed up at my door tomorrow. No email. No meeting. No anything. I don't know whether to be flattered or insulted that my room has become the cast-off room. If a child needs to be removed from the classroom he is in, they are sent to me. I'm choosing to think it's because my classroom is a stable environment :-P

Meanwhile, our beloved kitty is terrified that I'm going to leave her again (I've been away both weekends). So she follows me around the house and cries as soon as I leave her sight. Additionally, she's taken advantage of the fact that there's more room on the bed and sleeps directly next to my shoulder all night long. I try to give her as much attention as possible, but geez, cats aren't supposed to be like this. That's my baby....

And my other baby will be back very soon. Thank goodness. It's been 2 weeks and I'm done with this current trip. Come home soon!

Come on Friday.....
