This afternoon, a colleague I taught with last year called me and asked if I wanted to go to a Greek festival. It's held by a local (huge!!) Greek Orthodox Church every year. There's mass amounts of food, and wine, and dancing. A great time. I almost passed it up, using the excuse that I have a cold, which I do, as a reason not to go out. These are friends of ours, who got married the week before we did. We're at the same place in our lives, we have the same careers, our husbands are in the same field, we grew up in the same area....alot in common. Nevertheless, I have a hard time going out "alone." But when the husband is away...I guess it's just something I'll have to get used to. Anyway, we ate and caught up and generally had a blast.
On my way home, I stopped at the Hollywood Video. The guy at the counter was playfully flirty. Not in a rude or offensive way, but he was definitely flirting. Since I didn't seek it out, and since he wasn't rude about it, it leaves me with a pleasant feeling. Not because I'm interested, but because it's such a confidence booster, every once in awhile, to be positively noticed by a total stranger. But, KJB...he didn't bring me any extra drinks ;)
And speaking of flirting, anybody familiar with country music artist Trace Adkins, you MUST check out his new single Swing here. Or, if you'd rather, you can read just the lyrics here. Hysterical. I had this cranked up on the way home. One of those songs where the lyrics are what makes it really stand out.
"I get something out of them. When I feel down, I like to treat myself. Clothes never look any good, and food just makes me fatter, but shoes always fit." In Her Shoes ~Jennifer Weiner

He's O.K., but I almost always turn off his "Honky Tonk Ba-donka-donk" because I hear nothing but unadulterated mysogyny.
