A Rear View

" I think that anyone who comes upon a Nautilus machine suddenly will agree with me that its prototype was clearly invented at some time in history when torture was considered a reasonable alternative to diplomacy. "
Anna Quindlin (1953 - )

I looked her up. Anna Quindlin, I mean. She's an author, so I suppose that gives her some credibility. At any rate, I would agree with her above quote.

I am not one of those people blessed with a speedy metabolism. I cannot eat or drink whatever I please and then not pay for it the next day....or for the next week. I blame it on the German genes. I mean, really, how many truly thin German women can you think of? Uh huh. That's what I thought. So keeping an (ahem!) girlish figure requires some extra effort.

Last night, Kevin suggested we take a bike ride. I thought, Great! I'll burn off some of those calories that refuse to budge!

We cycled for about an hour and a half. It really was enjoyable, despite the fact that the temps were still in the high 80s at 7:30pm. We made our way down to the end of the boardwalk and watched a church group perform for a group of kids. We cycled back using the backroads and avoiding most of the traffic. We showered and went to bed.

I knocked off...wait for it....wait for it....ONE pound! Trumpets are blasting, let me tell you. All that for a single pound.

Oh. And a new bike seat is a MUST. I had not ridden that bike since I was about 17 years old. The seat is obviously designed for a petite teen rear. I am not a teen and I am not petite. Also, there is zero padding. Ow.

I need a doughnut. The inflatable kind.

Though the cream-filled kind sounds good, too....

Argh, I just tried to post a comment and lost it. I'll try again.....

Can I just say your corner of the universe sounds idyllic? My corner is anything but...to get on a bike here at this time of year brings to mind another word, say...suicidal?

GOOD FOR YOU! I still haven't gotten up the nerve to join a gym or give up chocolate. And yes, German anything brings to mind fantastic pastries and yummy sausages....sigh. Genetics is hard to fight.

On that note, either a sausage or a strudel sounds good to me right now.
