In the Words of Kenny

Kevin and I will have been together 7 years this coming January.

My oldest girlfriend and I have been friends for almost 15 years.

In a month, my husband will have another birthday. One that will put him definitively closer to 30 than he is to 20 (sorry, babe!).

Last week I comforted my pregnant coworker while listening to her voice her concerns regarding her high-risk pregnancy.

Yesterday, I had a conversation with another friend about whether or not now was a good time for her and her husband to sell their home, as they're having trouble keeping up with their mortgage payments.

Then I spent several hours out on a friend's speedboat.

Yet another friend and her husband are under financial pressure, after he lost one job and then quit another.

I bought a new vaccuum cleaner today...and I got excited about it.

All this to say that in the past couple weeks, I've had a few, "Wow, this is my life" moments. All the individuals mentioned above are people I would consider my peers, meaning that they're in my age group. I feel surprised, sometimes, that I'm having these conversations with people, and then I realize that I'm old enough to have these conversations. And that's strange.

We're facing another life change this coming spring and with it comes some decisions about "what next?" I think I'm looking forward to that, but a little apprehensive, too.

Kenny Chesney says,

Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink

That about sums it up. How did I get from "six years old and you take a nap" to where I am now?

I love that song...just listened to it a while ago.

It all goes so fast.

Enjoy the ride!

Good luck! Yeah, I'm starting to see that it all goes in a flash, too. There's another song that addresses the same issue. Check out John Mayer's "Stop this Train." I love it.

Good lyrics, though; I'll have to check out Mr. Chesney's latest.

Peace,

Marybeth

P.S. How's teaching going???
