Roll Out the Red Carpet

When we were first married, I suggested putting the tiny college days television in our bedroom, rather than throw it out. The husband doth protest. "I think it would ruin the mood," said he.

Okay. Touche.

Except this past year, the husband has spent almost six months on the water. And when he IS home, he has to spend every 6th night on board.

And then the wife doth protest.

I am not a person who likes total silence. If there's not somebody in the house with me, I'm uncomfortable unless I have the television or radio on. And I don't like falling asleep alone in the "big" bed.

So at the end of this past summer, I again asked that the small tv (which we had fortunately kept) be set up in the bedroom. Except I didn't really ask...I used that tone that only women have truly mastered that makes it SOUND like we're asking, but there's really only one right answer.

We know have the tv hooked up in the bedroom. I employ the sleep mode and fall asleep with the tv on low. I've rediscovered Nick at Nite and old sitcoms that were once new. I'm also staying loyal to Grey's, even though the season premiere last week left me thinking "eh." And tonight, I'm trying out Pushing Daisies, which is actually funny in a slightly off-beat, quirky kind of way. It reminds me of the movie Big Fish.

I'm expecting a call from Ebert any day now.

Ha, sorry to keep commenting on your posts, but I loved this one. I know what you mean about the "total silence" thing; it freaks me out!! I love background noise. So much so that I even put the "ocean" on as I fall asleep.

But yeah, I can't imagine being married to someone who's gone so often. Props to you for dealing with that all so well!

And finally, I LOVE your description of the "tone" that women have mastered... Perfectly said! Too bad we're not in the same part of the country; I think we'd be good friends.

Good luck with stress management, and yay for seeing your man! :)
